Before I say anything about this tablet .... I have used Apple for years and love their products . Recently I used the new iPad 5 ... (over 400) and the iPad Pro 10.5.... (close to 700).... returned both. (over priced)Then I saw one of my friends with a Fire HD 8...So I decided to give it a try ... not expecting much of anything from this tablet. WELL!!! After using it for the last few days ..... I’m blown away from what I got for $59 (reg $79) Holy cr-p! This thing is amazing .... excellent screen, good speed, quality build , perfect size , great battery life , the setup/software is very intuitive, ease of expanding storage (inexpensively) , etc etcAnd do you know what I love the most about it .... drum roll please .... if this thing ever gets stolen , run over by a car , dropped in water , thrown across the room by a crazy Spanish girlfriend (ex girlfriend) .... it’s not the end of the world . A $700 IPad Pro .... I would have a heart attack ... literally....I love the fact that I can throw this in my backpack head into NYC for a gig and NOT WORRY about it ..... that’s worth a lot to me.Regarding Apple .... they do have the best specs hands down .... but at a huge PRICE!95% of you out there don’t need the Apple specs or price tag....Take the plunge and be amazed at what you get for this incredible priceOne more thing ....Alexa is absolutely AMAZING on it .
I bought these when they went on sale for $50 and I guess any workable tablet at that price is worth buying with a catch. If you are a child or don’t expect much from your tablet this is a good buy. Children because if they break it no big deal, if your an adult who has ever owned a Apple or a Samsung or some other brand of performance tablet then you will be very unhappy with the 8” fire and it’s claimed HD display.Things I don’t like:-Extremely slow and I have a very good WiFi system.-Display looks washed out and blurry-Very limited application, this is mostly a store front and a media device IMHO.-Clumsy to use. I am well versed in Apple and android and I was always frustrated with the general operation. It is not very intuitive or pleasant to use.-Very limited capacity at 16GB. But then as I said this is a store front and for media consumption and this storage capacity is enough for that in certain situations.-intentionally designed to rope you into the Amazon eco system. HOWEVER that is not necessarily a bad thing. Amazons eco system is one of the best. Just be aware that this is happening. I prefer open sourced devices that work on WiFi alone. But then like I said I have a hardy WiFi system.Things I like:-Cheap at $50 this is unbeatable and usable tablet. Great for clumsy children, teenagers or adults with low or no expectations.-Decent battery life-Access to Amazons media and storefront which are amount the best.-small and easy to throw into a backpack or large pocket.-surprisingly sturdy it doesn’t feel cheap to me just a bit small for large hands. In the end I just can’t recommend this device even considering the bargain price point I paid for it. HOWEVER for children and teens this is enough and you don’t cry when it brakes. Also I understand that there are economic issues adults need to consider. If this is all you can afford go for it. Although I strongly suggest saving up and buying a quality device you will be much happier with in the end.As I stated...
I like that the screen is bigger for my 7 yr old. He has always been very tech savvy and responsible with the internet/electronics, so this is the perfect tablet for him. I like that i can set up the tablet for him and he will have access to what i want him to. I feel this is the perfect tablet for a kid. I do wish the camera was better and that there was more storage. My son likes to play a lot of games, take lots of pics and download lots of books/videos. This tablet just doesn't have the space for that. also the battery life isn't that great. Considering I bought this tablet on sale around the holidays very deeply discounted, its for a 7 yr old, and it can still function like a regular high priced tablet (so i can and do use it as well), for older kids you can download games from the playstore and not have to worry about the FreeTime Unlimited services that amazon offers for kids, it seems to be pretty durable, its totally worth it.
Over the past seven years I have owned three 7" Fire Tablets, beginning with the first Kindle Fire and going through the current generation of Fire not Kindle. (And not HD.) And, I have given dozens of the various variants, including the 6" model, as gifts to kids. I replaced my first Fire with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 because I wanted a 'real' Android tablet. The past two before this one, my first 8" version, were to see what Alexa was up to. Not, I thought, up to the level of the Google Assistant. For the past year, I have been using an Nvidia Shield Tablet as my primary reader, having given my Kindle Paperwhite to a friend who had no Kindle or tablet of any kind, but the battery was getting pretty weak on the Nvidia, which was about five years old, and the Fire HD 8 was on sale for $49, so I thought I would give it a try.The 8" is a much nicer experience, really, than the 7" (except that it's heavier, heavier than most other 8" tablets. The screen is noticeably better, and the sound is much better. I've had it for about three months now, and I don't plan to give it away. I replaced the annoying 'special features' adverts with the beautiful lock screen photos that cost $15 more, so I now have $65 invested in it, plus a 64G SD card. And, considering the cost, I have no complaints. It's not so fast as the Nvidia, but it cost 1/8 as much. The screen doesn't match an iPad, but it cost about 1/16 as much.I don't use it for any kind of writing or drawing. But if what one needs/wants is a device that is a great price to watch movies and read books or magazines or surf the web, it's hard to beat. I set Google as the preferred browser, but Silk still gives me 'suggestions'. Alexa is still dumb as. But it's a great way to read. I don't find the light at all tiring, and it has the advantage over a 'real' Kindle of showing illustrations in full color on the same screen as one watches Prime movies. Also of course there are the speakers. If one has an Amazon Prime membership, t...
